What is "Recertified?"

You may have heard that many of the ready-to-drive cars that we sell at Bronson Quality Cars are recertified – what exactly does that mean?

From the time a vehicle is manufactured, the state in which it is sold assigns it a “clean” title, meaning the vehicle meets standards set forth in vehicle codes like the Michigan Vehicle Code.  When a late model vehicle is totaled by an insurance company – meaning that major component parts are damaged and the repair costs exceed a certain percentage of the car’s worth – the vehicle is assigned a “salvage title.”  The salvage title does two things: 1) it prohibits the vehicle from being driven on public roads because of its damage, and 2) alerts potential buyers that there are problems or damage to major components of the vehicle.  No vehicle with a salvage title may be operated on public roadways lawfully.  Cars with salvage titles may be bought and sold (see our Repairables listings).

In order to make a salvage vehicle lawfully driveable on public highways again, all of the mechanical and structural issues must be addressed and fixed to state standards.  After making the necessary repairs, the vehicles are submitted for inspection by a police officer to insure that everything is in good working order and the vehicle meets state standards.  If a vehicle passes the inspection, it is assigned a “recertified” title (designated by the word “rebuilt” on the title).  A recertified title tells potential buyers that, although the vehicle was previously deemed salvage, it has been repaired to meet the equipment standards of the Michigan Vehicle Code and allows the car to be driven on public roadways.  You can see our listings of recertified cars here.

To deliver the public affordable vehicles, Bronson Quality Cars regularly purchases salvage vehicles at low prices.  These cars are then repaired and listed for sale at low prices.  Not only do low prices offer affordability to our customers; they also benefit from the economy of late model vehicles with low mileage.  Before they are offered to the public as Repaired and Recertified, they are inspected by qualified police inspectors.  You can be sure that our Repaired and Recertified cars meet Michigan's state standards.
